The Book

A cloud

A large white book where small cumulus accumulate, just like sometimes in life.

The Author

Katsumi Komagata

Katsumi Komagata was born in 1953 in Japan. He studied graphic design in the studio of the famous poster designer Kazumasa Nagaï. He took part in the creation of visual identities in fashion - Comme des garçons, Zucca – He became familiar with the worlds of Bruno Munari, Leo Lionni and Tana Hoban and discovered their books for children in New York in the Museum of Modern Art’s shop when he worked for CBS in the United States. In 1990 at the birth of his daughter Aï, he went back to Tokyo, and created flash cards for her. These cards were then put together in the series “Little eyes” and published by Kaishei-sha. Komagata created his own agency, “One Stroke”, which published 30 titles accompagning the growth of his daughter; these titles are distributed by Les Trois Ourses*. Though he never met Munari, he is very familiar with his work and was entrusted with the catalogue for the exhibition celebrating the centenary of Munari’s birth at the Itabashi Museum in Tokyo in 2007, as well as the organization of workshops throughout the world, just as Munari did.

The Publishing House

Les Trois Ourses

The non-profit organization Les Trois Ourses - The Three Bears -, founded in 1988, focuses on the artistic education of children by putting " the book at the center ".

For Les Trois Ourses the childhood is a special time of creative development.
Stimulating the imagination of young children and fostering their capacity to be amazed gives them the ability to carry on an intimate and constructive dialogue with the world around them throughout their lifetime.
